About Us

1983 Edition

Ginger Snaps Designs was established by Nancy Coburn in 1983 with the publication of The Busy Mother's Guide to Sewing Children's Clothes.  This book is currently in its sixth printing and continues to be a best-seller.  Ginger Snaps publications include detailed and clearly-written instructions for children's garment construction and heirloom sewing by machine techniques.  Nancy Coburn, a graduate of Auburn University, is an English major with eight years experience teaching middle and high school English and reading.  Her years in the classroom teaching seventh-graders provided her some of her best training for writing instructions.  Her interest in and love of sewing and needlearts began in her childhood when her grandmother taught her to crochet and has continued through all of her adult life.  The inspiration for her business was the birth of her daughter, Ginger, in 1980.

In addition to detailed instructions, Ginger Snaps publications include numerous illustrations and photographs which make them very easy to read and follow. Many shops use them as a text to teach classes.   Because of Nancy's life-long love of sewing and the years she has spent sewing for her daughter,  Ginger Snaps patterns fit well and the construction design is simple enough for beginners.   You will find these books and patterns, which are sold internationally, among the very best on the market.
